A Product Mix-Up Put This San Antonio HOA
President’s Project At Risk. So, Lynx Went
Into Overdrive To Get The Job Done
Timely Action And A Same-Day Solution
Let Us Keep Our Word To Thomas
At Lynx Roofing, we’re known for providing timely, expert San Antonio-area roof replacements. In most cases, our process works like a well-oiled machine. But every once in a while, unexpected circumstances put us to the test.
That’s what happened when Thomas M., president of a local homeowners association (HOA), asked us to replace his hail-damaged roof. We thought we were all set to go for installation day. But on the eve of the job, we realized a distributor had sent us the wrong product!
We’d already made promises to Thomas, and he was counting on us. So, rather than break our word, we devised a lightning-quick, two-stage solution to the problem.
In the end, Thomas got his roof on time and with the right material installed. And we got the chance to prove yet again that Lynx Roofing comes through, even when the margin for success is razor-thin.
Thomas Calls To Replace His Ailing San Antonio Roof
Not long ago, Thomas contacted us to see if we could work on his San Antonio-area roof. Its shingles, he informed us, were about 15 years old. They were also significantly damaged from a hail storm the previous year.
Unfortunately, Thomas had never filed an insurance claim for the damage. Given the lapse in time, he didn’t know if he would still be able to. He also worried his insurer might not cover the damage due to the age of the shingles.
Assessing The Needs Of Thomas’s Roof Replacement Project
With this information in mind, our owner, Chris, visited Thomas’s home. State law in Texas prohibits roofing contractors from claiming any insurance-related expertise. However, it allows roofers to perform inspections and document damage they believe is weather-related.
Chris performed this service for Thomas in the presence of his insurer’s claims adjuster. He then showed the adjuster what he’d found.
With that part of the process underway, Chris went over Thomas’s roofing options with him. During this discussion, Chris discovered our potential customer was the neighborhood’s HOA president.
Making Preliminary Arrangements For The Roofing Project
When all was said and done, Thomas’s insurance company fully approved his hail damage claim. With this issue settled, the project was a go.
Given Thomas’s standing as HOA president, Chris decided to upgrade him to Class 4 shingles at no extra cost. These shingles have two major benefits.
First, they’re tough as they come and provide maximum protection against hail damage. Second, their use can potentially lower your future homeowner’s insurance premiums.
A Big Mistake On The Eve Of Roof Installation Day
At this stage, all that remained was to take receipt of Thomas’s new shingles and start the installation. Chris promised Thomas the work could be done in a single day, and he had no doubt his estimated timeline was accurate.
But then, on the eve of the project’s start date, he discovered a huge mistake. Our normally reliable product distributor had shipped us the wrong ridge caps for Thomas’s roof.
Our Distributor’s Roofing Material Mix-Up
Ridge caps are unsung heroes on your household roof. They sit on each peak, where they protect the gap between adjoining sections of roof materials and roof decking.
It’s essential to match the material of your ridge caps to the material used on the rest of your roof. Otherwise, you could create a weak link in your all-weather home defenses.
As it turns out, the caps sent to us weren’t Class 4. This meant the project was in jeopardy for multiple reasons.
Trouble For Thomas’s Roofing Job
For starters, if we installed the provided ridge caps, we would compromise the effectiveness of Thomas’s roof replacement upgrade. We would also stop him from accessing the insurance benefits of using Class 4 materials.

All-Hands-On-Deck Roofing Services Save The Day
How did Lynx Roofing respond to this out-of-the-blue crisis? The first step was getting the right ridge caps to the job site ASAP.
Fortunately, Chris has very close ties with our asphalt shingle provider, GAF. He leveraged these ties to arrange a same-day delivery of the correct caps from halfway across the state.
However, as rapid as this response was, it left us with a significant time crunch. Our solution? Adding a second roofing crew to the job.
With double the labor force on hand, we had no problem taking the work as far as we could before the ridge caps arrived. And when the caps made it to the site later in the day, we had all the help we needed to pop them into place.

Our Hussle And Roofing Expertise Pay Off For Thomas
In the end, Thomas got just what we promised him – a one-day project carried out with top-notch materials. We’re glad to say he was overjoyed with the results. In fact, his praise of our efforts is already making the rounds throughout the neighborhood!
